Monthly debates in English.
English-speaking interdisciplinary discussions at the CLSH, University of Lorraine, Nancy.
Organized by the Department of Philosophy and the English Studies Department.
Join us for the eighth of a series of debates about crucial and/or controversial contemporary topics!
This time, we will try to deal with the problem of liberalism, and its British symbolic incarnation, Margaret Thatcher.
What liberalism was about at the beginning? Is it still liberal or is it rather precisely a place where conservatism can function better than anywhere else?
Finally, what about neoliberalism? What are its main issues and does it preserve any of the virtues of the original doctrine?
Is there an alternative to liberalism, and to liberal democracy? Or, should we follow the Iron Lady in her TINA doctrine? Come and talk with us.
When:
Wednesday, March 4, 2020
6:30 PM
Venue:
Building G of the CLSH
Room G04
Discussion with:
– Jeremy Tranmer from the English Studies Department
– Anna C. Zielinska from the Philosophy Department
Bring your experience and knowledge – and speak with us in English!
It will be a wonderful exercise for non-native English speakers and an opportunity to follow contemporary campus-style discussions for those of you who already master the language.
The event welcomes all audiences, as far as they are willing to engage into an open debate on often controversial topics.
